Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers - was born July 8, 1989 in Paris. The couple was moved to Oxfordshire when she was five where she attended an academy called the Dragon School. Emma was only six when she realized she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. She studied for a number of years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a Part-time theatre school located in Oxford in which she learned acting as well as singing. She had already performed in several Stagecoach and school productions by the time she turned ten. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The 2001 film version from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting agent through her Oxford drama teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's debut film appearance came with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. The movie set records in terms of the opening weekend and revenues, and was the most-recorded 2001 movie. The film received praise from reviewers, and so were the performances of its three young starlets. The Daily Telegraph in Britain, which is widely distributed, called her performance commendable. Emma's performance received nominations and was awarded five awards for the movie.
